SmartOCR Technology Integrated into Imaging Software Applications

2012, November 03 – SmartSoft, the leading provider of innovative optical character recognition (OCR), document capture and conversion software solutions, has announced that the Australian provider of document imaging, data capture, data entry and remote scanning solutions, Integrated Imaging Systems, is now using optical character recognition (OCR) technology from SmartSoft. Integrated Imaging Systems has successfully integrated the renowned Smart OCR technology into two of their imaging products.

The Australian company was looking to integrate accurate OCR technology into a logistics application and an accounts payable solution for extracting data from invoices. The images to be processed with OCR were Tiff or single and multipage color and searchable PDF documents.In both applications, the processed data had to be exported into various formats.

Integrated Imaging Systems tested several OCR engines but they did not provide sufficient results. The company then turned to SmartSoft because their Smart OCR SDK delivered high accuracy and offered zoning capabilities

To ensure optimum results, different templates were created for the various document layouts, with the text regions specified for each template. The software then automatically found the corresponding template for each processed image. In this way, the applications could automatically perform OCR and extract the necessary information accurately, without the need to manually specify the location of the data on the form. The templates provided dynamic location of text regions, so the regions were properly located even if the document was moved, rotated, or zoomed during scanning.

As a result, Integrated Imaging Systems managed to offer to its clients working solutions capable of accurate extraction of data forms. “SmartSoft’s professionals have been quite cooperative and we have done well from them assisting us,” commented Sam Guidice, CEO of Integrated Imaging Systems.
